This
is how I do what I do:
I am not a therapist and cannot cure mental illness, or address
acute behavioural abnormalities. Perfection is something none
of us have but many often strive towards; you and I are normal,
its just all the others, if they were as normal as us things would
be fine.
I
use a combination of psychoanalytic, behavioural, and humanistic
approaches to ascertain and determine the most appropriate approach
to move forward. Each client is different, and therefore no ‘one’
approach or technique is followed.
•
Psychoanalytic- the theory of listening and not giving advice.
Allowing the coachee to talk through their own problems
and finding their own solutions.
• Behavioural-concerned with behaviours and not mental states.
The association of learned behaviours over time is a product of
our conditioning.
• Humanistic-awareness of ones self in the context of others;
the self, the self image and self actualisation. Making choices,
taking responsibilities, listening to inner feelings.
As
a qualified Business Psychologist, I have at my disposal a combination
of instruments to assist if necessary in managing the challenges:
• Personality
• Emotional Intelligence
• Interpersonal Relationship preference
• Strengths Assessment
Just
as often however none of these instruments are used, with the
focus being purely on business and the immediate issues being
faced.
